Grapes!

Finished and in situ!

It’s finished! Another little project to cross off the list: the Duncan Grant ‘Grapes’ cushion for my ‘studio’ space. I love the way the front turned out, but the back…erm not so sure. Well, I don’t plan to look at it so does it really matter? A lack of fabric meant I had to compromise on the back and add a white linen button band. Looks like your worst kind of city shirt to me! Not to mention that there wasn’t enough to get it quite central. Ahem, let’s change the subject shall we?!

The back. Not so happy…

The small quilted circles (the grapes!) look quite sweet, but they were a bit of a pain to quilt – a lot of fabric turning went on!

I loved adding the sprinklings of French knots like fairy dust! The fabric design has some large open areas in the centre of the cushion and I wanted to make sure they were quilted enough to hold the layers together, and the French knots pick up on the dots in other areas of the printed design so it seemed like the perfect solution.

I made a very simple edging, not having enough fabric for a binding and really not fancying a white piping… It’s very simple to do, you just turn the cushion right side out, press and then top stitch an inch or so away from the outer edge. I did two rows of top-stitching.

And overall satisfaction? I’d say 8 out of 10 maybe?! 9 out of 10 if I don’t look at the back!!!  But the best thing is that it does just what I wanted it to do in the room: add a burst of luscious colour and a touch of comfort to the chair.  10 out of 10 🙂

Hope your week’s going well.  Back soon,

Me too! Buuuut…I did have an unexpected jaunt to The Japanese Garden in St Mawgan instead! It’s such an amazing place, I plan to go back sometime with a camera and some paints – I’d love to share it here. Fancy a trip out sometime?! x
