Flying Geese – a foundation pattern
Foundation piecing is a great way to make very accurate patchwork blocks and if you download this free pdf and follow my tutorial, you’ll undoubtedly have the most perfect points you’ll ever sew! You can use flying geese for borders or to make blocks themselves (Dutchman’s Puzzle for one!). If you’re looking for inspiration have a look at my Scandinavian inspired pillow where I used this very pattern to make the flying geese borders. Download the pattern by clicking on the image below.
English paper pieced cushion
You’ve heard of Grandma’s Flower Garden quilts, well here’s my zesty modern version to excite the senses: A pillow of perfect proportions! If you’ve ever longed to try English Paper Piecing but have been daunted by the prospect of hand sewing an entire quilt, this pillow pattern is for you. Try your hand sewing skills on an achievable project that retains the desirable heirloom quality that only hand sewing can give. I give recommendations for choosing your fabrics to keep the modern look, but you could use any fabrics you prefer to make the cushion just right for your room. Hand sew these mug rugs!
Download one or download them all! Coasters are a great small project to try out hand piecing and applique. These designs are based on traditional blocks and use simple sewing techniques that anyone can do and achieve great results. You could choose one design and make four mug rugs the same, or mix and match designs – maybe trying one of each. Whichever you decide you’ll have a great place to rest your coffee mug when you finish!
